look: in theory, theatre is a populist medium, but it has become by FAR the most elitist. ticket prices are exorbitantly high. producers refuse to release the filmed productions they’re sitting on. unless you happen to live in a big city with a theatre scene or the site of national tour stops, you simply don’t have access to much live professional theatre.
millions and millions of people who’ve never had the chance to see les mis live are going to see this movie and a good percentage of those people will probably love it. why would you want to deny them the opportunity just because you think alfie boe and norm lewis did it better?
don’t assume people are fucking sheep and will automatically disdain the original theatrical version of the material, okay? let them decide for themselves. and if they decide that they do like the movie better, just accept it. you will always have the broadway, west end, and tour casts that you can enjoy.
