



#i wish i knew whether he was looking towards england or not #like if he is this could be read as him mourning his exile from his homeland #if he isn’t he could just be mourning the fact that he’s among the vikings #and there’s the whole thing that he’s looking upon a beautiful landscape that he would consider created by god #and instead of being happy he is weeping because what are god’s gifts if you can’t appreciate them #(see the rope marks around his neck and his generally haggard appearance) #in this scene he’s still a slave in a completely unfamiliar land without any friends from home #and he’s being treated like an animal #and the only person who is shown to have spoken to him like a person is the one who enslaved him and destroyed his life (via rimmingway)
